West Brom were today (Jan 27 2011) being strongly linked with a move for Hamburg striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.
The tall Cameroonian is out of contract this summer which could free him up for a move before Monday’s deadline, although HSV have the option to extend his deal.
The 21-year-old’s father, who also acts as his agent, confirmed to German media that several clubs had inquired about him.
« HSV have had offers from Germany but also England, for example from West Bromwich Albion, » said Choupo-Moting senior.
« The next few days will bring a resolution. »
The 21-year-old, who is reportedly on Cologne’s radar, can play up front or on the wing.
Choupo-Moting, who scored five goals in a 25 game loan spell for Nuremberg in 2009/10, has scored twice in 23 appearances for Hamburg, who already have several options within their ranks.
Regarded as one of Germany’s biggest talents some time ago, Choupo-Moting has struggled with injury problems.
He opted to represent Cameroon and has scored twice in six appearances.
As yet there has been no indication whether Albion will pursue him before Monday’s 11pm deadline.
