Swallows’ Cameroonian striker scoops two awards
MBABANE (Swaziland) – Swallows and Cameroon international deadly striker Etienne Hiver Massoye made history when he won two major awards in a debut for his team during the 40/40 Celebrations Cup played at Somhlolo National Stadium.
Massoye walked away with the top goal scorer and player of the tournament awards. Overall, he won E4 000.
The player, who arrived in the country on Saturday, missed the first game against Manzini Wanderers only to make a surprise appearance against Mhlambanyatsi Rovers. In the game, the red-hot striker scored two classic goals in the team’s 3-1 win over the youthful Rovers side.
In a post match interview, the player highlighted that he was happy to be associated with a good team like Swallows. Massoye mentioned that he was in the country to play football and enjoy his stay. « I am very happy that my arrival in the country coincided with the 40/40 Cup.
“I am grateful to Swallows management for the confidence they have shown in me.
They afforded me the opportunity to display what I am capable of in a game of such magnitude, » the soft-speaking goal poacher stated.
When asked further about competing for the top goal scorer award, the Cameroon international mentioned that it would be too early for him to confidently promise the ‘Birds’ supporters that he will challenge for the award.
He, however, pointed out that with time at Swallows, there is still more to come from his deadly boots.
He strongly believes that with the assistance of his team-mates and technical staff, Swallows would be a force to be reckoned with this coming season.
« My job as a striker is very clear. It is to score goals and help the team win trophies. I am here to fulfill my dream as a player. My dream is to see the team taking every single trophy, » Massoye concluded.
