Al-Ittihad of Alexandria’s top scorer Edet Otobong moves to Sudan for $841,000 despite interest from Ahly and ZamalekKarim Farouk, Friday 10 Jun 2011
Sudanese giants Al-Hilal signed Cameroonian striker Edet Otobong from Egyptian side Ittihad of Alexandria on Friday, just a few hours before the local transfer deadline.
“We reached an agreement with Al-Hilal and the player will leave on Friday to join his new team,” Ittihad of Alexandria president Effat El-Sadat told Egyptian TV on Friday.
The Alexandrian based club have agreed to release their star striker for $841,000 after weeks of negotiations with several clubs.
The Cameroonian striker – who will turn 26 in July – made a huge impact in the Egyptian Premier League scoring nine goals that put him on top of the scorers’ chart before sustaining an injury that kept him on the sidelines for almost a month.
Cairo giants Ahly and Zamalek had stepped up their interest in signing the highly-rated striker who had joined Ittihad last summer after a short spell in Syria.
Al-Hilal entered the race late but managed to finalise the deal in just a few hours, hoping that their new striking force will give them a huge boost in their CAF Champions League campaign.
