Marc Vivien Foe has been ruled out of the trip to Anfield after picking up an injury while on international duty.
Marc Vivien Foe may have played his last game for Manchester City. The Cameroon international has been ruled out of the Premiership clash with Liverpool and is a doubtful starter for the final game at Maine Road in a week’s time.
The twenty-eight-year-old, whose loan period expires at the end of this season, has a groin strain which he suffered when playing for Cameroon in a midweek friendly international.
Kevin Keegan’s hopes of signing the midfielder, who has scored nine goals this season, have been dashed with Lyon slapping a £7m price tag on the player.
Though the City chief is hopeful that a deal can still be reached to bring the Cameroon to the Blues on a permanent contract he admits it is a blow to lose him even though there are only two games of the season left.
« Marc returned from Cameroon with a groin strain and has been unable to train so he will not feature at Anfield, » explained the boss.
« It is a blow to the side and we are not sure at this stage if he will be fit for the final game at Maine Road. »
The Cameroon’s absence could mean a start for Djamel Belmadi in a midfield role. While the boss, who was keeping his cards close to his chest after the squad’s final training session, could go with three up front or hand a role to Mikkel Bischoff.
« I will not be adding anyone new to the squad. I don’t think there is any need for that as we have a strong squad as it is, » he confirmed.
