Real Mallorca striker Samuel Eto’o is to buy a number of free tickets to give away to fans in order to apologise for his recent dismissal in a La Liga match against Barcelona.
The sending off – for violent conduct after Eto’o lashed out at Barca midfielder Thiago Motta – reduced Eto’o’s side to nine men after just 30 minutes.
They had already had lost defender Alvaro Novo, and total capitulation followed, Mallorca losing 4-0 and being completely torn apart.
Now the Cameroonian will purchase 30,000 euros’ worth as a way of saying sorry for his role in the crushing defeat, the dismissal having subsequently earned him a four-match ban.
« I regret what happened and fully deserved the ban, » Eto’o said on Tuesday.
« As a way of making it up to the fans I will buy 30,000 euros of tickets so that they can watch Mallorca play at Son Moix. »
Eto’o has a poor disciplinary record.
He also received a four-match ban at the start of this season after television pictures showed him headbutting Valencia forward Miguel Angel Angulo at the end of a league match.
