Charlton have signed André Bikey-Amougou on a two-year contract, the club announced on Wednesday morning
Charlton have signed André Bikey-Amougou on a two-year contract, the club announced on Wednesday morning.
Bikey-Amougou, who becomes Charlton’s fourth signing of the summer, has enjoyed a successful trial period at the club and impressed during Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Sint-Truiden in the Philips Stayen Cup.
The central defender, who has played for Reading, Burnley and Middlesbrough, arrives on a free transfer after his contract with Panetolikos F.C of the Greek Superleague expired.
The 29-year-old Cameroon international has had spells in Russia, Spain and Portugal before arriving in England with Reading in August 2006.
Shortly after making his fourth summer signing at Sparrows Lane on Wednesday, Head Coach Bob Peeters said he was pleased to secure the services of the experienced defender.
« He made a very good impression with us in Belgium, » explained Peeters.
« He’s got experience of this league and we’re very happy to sign him.
« It’s important for people like Joe Gomez and Harry Lennon to be working with someone with his experience – they can learn from him.
« His knowledge of the Championship will be very important, » added the Belgian.
Bikey-Amougou has some experience of playing at The Valley, once for Middlesbrough in a 4-1 win over the Addicks in November 2012, and once in April 2007 when Charlton drew 0-0 with Reading.
Supporters are likely to see Bikey-Amougou for the first time since becoming a Charlton player during Saturday’s traditional friendly at Welling United.
