Arsenal To Offer Djourou In Bid To Snatch Everton Target Mbia?
Arsenal are reportedly going to offer Johan Djourou to Ligue 1 club Rennes on a loan-deal with a view to buy as an incentive to let the French side let Everton target Stephane Mbia leave for the Emirates Stadium.
22-year-old midfielder Mbia has been a target for Toffees boss David Moyes all summer, but Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is set to hijack the deal by offering 21-year-old central-defender Djourou (left) on a loan deal in a bid to land Mbia ahead of Everton.
Cameroon International Mbia has been chased by Moyes all summer, with the midfielder openly expressing his desire to move to Goodison Park. However, Everton have reportedly only offered Mbia £23,000-a-week, something the North London club can easily better as Wenger looks to close in on the quality midfielder he has said he needs for the Emirates.
Rennes reportedly made an approach for Swiss International Djourou last week, and now that Arsenal have signed Mikael Silvestre from Manchester United are prepared to let the young defender leave for the Route de Lorient. This move is likely to appeal to Djourou, who would be closer to his family if he made the switch to France.
Should the offer of Djourou be enough to tempt Les Rouges et Noirs to let Mbia leave. It would mean that once again Everton have failed to land a transfer target, having recently been turned down by Portuguese pair Joao Moutinho and Tiago. With moves desperate to add to a squad that is down to it’s bare bones through injuries.
