The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon have rekindled their hopes of qualifying for the 2010 World cup in South Africa after they snatched a two nil victory from the panthers of Gabon in their own backyard.
The Lions grabbed two second half goals from a beautiful combination between skipper Samuel Eto’o and Achille Emana who concluded the action with a hard drive pass Gabonese keeper, Didier Ovono at the 66th minute before Eto’o sealed the victory two minutes later with a clinical strike at the edge of the Gabonese 18 meter box leaving the goalkeeper helpless.
The victory puts Cameroon at the second position in group A, with four points, while waiting for the clash between the hawks of Togo and the Atlas lions of Morocco in Lome on Sunday. The Lions took would need to confirm their supremacy on Wednesday when they host the Gabonese at the AHMADOU AHIDJO Stadium in what would prove to be the group decider; thus they shouldn’t be carried away be the euphoria that surrounds their victory for the job is far from being complete.
The match equally proved that haedcoach Paul Le Guen is restructuring the team after he maintained the skipper’s arm band on Samuel Eto’o at the expense of Rigobert Song who was dropped to the bench and later came in place of Sebastien Bassong who was injury stricken.
