The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon confirms their supremacy in group A of the ongoing AFCON/WC 2010 qualifiers after they inflicted a three nil victory on the hawks of Togo, Saturday afternoon at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaounde.
The Lions got the curtain raiser of the game at the 33rd minute from Geremi Njitap who got a rebound from « his missed penalty » after Achille Webo had been fouled by the Togolese goalkeeper in the 18 meters box. The Lions then confirmed their supremacy upon resumption of the second segment as Jean II Makoun slotted home goal number two at the 47th minute of play before Achille Emana who is said to be the man of the match hammered in the 3rd goal at the 55th minute.
With 35 minutes still left to the end of the match, the lions could contend themselves of carrying the day and therefore kept possession of the ball in their own half of the field to the frustration of the hawks who had just been plucked off their wings by the wounded Lions who were equally out to revenge the one nil defeat inflicted on them during the away leg game by Adebayor’s men.
The match was equally an opportunity for a renewed rivalry between Emmanuel Adebayor and Alexander Song which turned in favour of the young lad who policed the 2.0 m tall striker who had posed a major threat in the opening segments of the game.
‘’ADE’’, frustrated even asked to be substituted thereby leaving the pitch without fulfilling his promise of scoring two goals no matter the scores as he promised early this morning when the Hawks arrived Cameroon earlier on Saturday morning.
However the road to South Africa passes through Morocco next month when the Lions confront the Atlas Lions of Morocco who were equally humbled by this Saturday in Libreville by the Panthers of Gabon by three goals to one, but are still in contention for a place in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
