Tiko United have officially presented their president for the 2009/2010 football season. The President, Mr. Elame Ikome Victor, was presented during the club’s extraordinary congress held on Saturday, September 12 at the Tiko Town Green Hall. Mr. Elame who was the secretary General of last year’s executive committee takes over from Mr. Eteki Charles Dikongue who tabled an unprecedented resignation after the club were crowned Champions of Cameroon.
Installing the new executive president to his functions, the president general, Mr. Charles Eteki called on fans and supporters of Tiko United to give him the total and unconditional support needed to man the affairs of the club. On his part, the new president, Mr. Elame praised the outgone executive for their hardwork towards the success of the club and promised to bring brighter days at the club. He seized the opportunity to pinpoint to the fans that his main objective is to see Tiko United grab the CAF African Champions league, retain their championship trophy and conquer the Cup of Cameroon which they missed out on at the semi-finals stage.
It is for this reason that the new boss of the « Samba Boys » declared that the club’s budget has increased to F.CFA 250 million a one hundred percent increase to meet up with the challenges that await them. To therefore match words with actions, supporters, fans and elites of the club raised the sum of F.CFA 14.6 Million to assist the team.
The President equally seized the opportunity to announce to the public that the club have recruited 16 new players who have the experience of continental competitions notably Elvis Mokake of Mount Cameroon FC of Buea and goalkeeper Francois Beyokol of Canon of Yaounde and national junior team.
Tiko United equally has a new technical bench now headed by Gerrard Mbimi, one time coach of Union Sportive of Douala. In preparation for the new football season, the players have been camping at Military base stadium in Bassa Douala though some players of the club are presently with the junior national selection ahead of the junior world championship in Egypt. Before Saturday’s congress, the « Samba boys » played a warm up encounter between the old and new players to the admiration of their fans. According to the team’s headcoach, Gerrard Mbimi, the warm up game was to show to the fans their level of preparedness. He seized the opportunity to rebuff rumours circulating that his players are not well concentrated in their training camp in Douala. To him, the choice of Douala is to avoid the distraction the players might have faced if they were camping in Tiko.
To crown the congress, the representative of the Governor of the south west region, Mr. Peter Tie Nde cautioned the team to be committed, engaged and disciplined if they hope to transform their dreams to reality, while thanking Mr. Eteki Charles Dikongue for his 20 years at the service of Football in Cameroon and Tiko United in particular.
