New comers PWD Bamenda are really in for a great season. They have notched five wins in five games and come near the record set by Canon Yaounde in 1978 when they won the first six league games.
In day five action on Sunday, PWD maintained their unique 1-0 dose against visiting Renaissance Yaounde at home. And as usual the goal came in early into the game, in the 19th minute. It was Rossi Nyebe’s second goal in the season.
With 15 points on 15, PWD are 4 points clear on top of the table, seconded by defending vice-champions Coton Sport Garoua. Though Coton Sport had a virgin tie in Yaounde agianst Tonnerre, they were able to keep the runners up position thanks to the defeat of running mates Mount Cameroon Buea.
Victoria United Limbe had their second win of the season with a 2-1 home win over neighbours Mount Cameroon. In the hotly contested provincial derby, United a.k.a OPOPO had the curtain raiser through Kouemaha in the 15 minute. Paul Essono pulled that goal back nine minutes later, before professional returnee Edwin Ifeanyi netted in the victory goal in the 62nd minute. Some crowd trouble was reported after Edwin’s goal, but the game came to a successful end.
Canon Yaounde have certainly gathered steam as they picked their second straight win, defeating Caiman Douala in Douala 3-1. Claude Ngon a Djam had the first double of the season. Canon had lost all first three games, but were able to avoid a crisis by winning their fourth match 2-0 over Cintra in day four.
The day five win has propelled Canon from the 14th position to the 9th with 6 points, 4 more that city rivals Tonnerre who top the table from bottom.
