In a bid to prepare clubs ahead of the upcoming football season, tournament regrouping some clubs of the Elite One and Elite two and regional division two clubs is presently going on at the Reunification Stadium in Douala. After two playing days of the competition, most Elite one clubs involved in the tournament have so far put up a timid show indicating that they are still to be fully prepared before the start of the season.
In one of the day two encounters played this Saturday at the reunification Stadium, Sable Fc of Batié were held to a one draw by the Academy Njalla Quan Sports (NQSA) from Limbe. It was a rather timid NQSA that began the encounter and were forced to concede a goal in the early minutes of the game. However the Limbe boys were fast in responding at the 17th minute through striker Ngomou Serges. Despite the domination of the Limbe boys, the score remained unchanged till the blast of the final whistle. Sable of Batié who put on another disappointing show after their 3-1 defeat last Wednesday are still to find their feet as headcoach, John Mayebi thinks they started training late as compared to other clubs.
In the second encounter, Daga Youngstars, a regional division two club in Douala outplayed Astres fc of Douala by two goals to one. The youngsters who were realistic took the bulls by the horns and got the curtain raiser just after five minutes of play through their striker, Ekanga Nelson. The same player later doubled the score at the 19th minute to put the score line situation at Daga 2 Astres 0. The Brazilians of Bepanda got up from slumber just before the brink of half time and put back one goal through their captain NGUEGOM TCHAMKO. Despite the impressive football produced by Daga youngstars during the second half, the score will remain unchanged, 2-1 in favour of Daga.
The tournament baptised the « Tournoi de l’amitié Likebel et associés » started last Wednesday and is divided in two groups. On Wednesday in group A, Sable Fc of Batié were humbled 3 goals to one by Daga Youngstars, while Astres of Douala and NQSA pulled a 2-2 draw. After two playing days in group B, Daga youngstars are first with six points followed by NQSA with 02 points, Astres 01 point and Sable 01 point.
In Group B, last Wednesday, Douala Athletic club 2000 (DAC) humbled SIMAF of Douala by three goals to one, while Union Sportive of Douala edged AS Matelots of the same town by a goal to nil. The second playing day in this group comes up this Sunday with Union Douala taking on SIMAF and Douala Athletic Club 2000 challenging AS Matelots. The leaders of each group will qualify directly to the finals to be played on the 10th.
