The Discipline and Homologation Committee of the national football governing body, FECAFOOT, met to examine disciplinary issues related to the ongoing premiership. The cases of one Chouamo Fidèle Romain alias Chouamo Romain Castro and Gabriel Zambe of the Buea club came to focus. The findings proved that the management was aware of Chouamo Fidèle flirting with the false name of Romain Castro.
His double identity was uncovered. To add salt to injury, the said player had changed his age. In applying article 141, paragraphs one and two of FECAFOOT by-laws, the Discipline and Homologation Committee ruled that, Mount Cameroon loses six points from their general stock. Coupled with verbal violence exhibited by some players of Mt Cameroon against officials during their match against Cotonsport on the 7th playing day, the disciplinary committee concluded that, they hope the sanction will bring the team to order. In another situation of indiscipline, the playground in Bandjoun earned a three-match suspension due to players’ hostility during home matches. The committee members judged as fair, the overall atmosphere that prevails this season citing the case of Chouamo as an isolated incident. Chouamo, it will be recalled, is a player of Unisport who used unorthodox means to get into Mount Cameroon. He was rebuked for playing pun with his name without changing his person. The world football governing body, FIFA has been stressing on fair play golden rule as a means to reward merit and cultivate excellence in sports. Managers and players will need to practise this tenet for the sake of the game.
