Yong Sports Academy of Bamenda would be hoping to write another page in their history when the Elite One Football Championship kicks off in less than a forth night. The team that grabbed its promotion to the Top Flight is seriously bracing up to kick start the new season in flying colours.
Conscious of the uphill task ahead of them, the management of the team has not relent its efforts in signing new players to reinforce the squad. In a telephone interview with the President and founder of the club, Mr Yong Francis, revealed that they have signed 15 new players but precised that most of them are dynamic youths whom he hopes can meet up to the challenge.
Though they have not signed any experienced player, headcoach, Jean Baptiste Kiam thinks it is no major loophole to them. To him, » survival in Elite One does not mean recruiting players from Cotonsport, Union or Canon ». »The team has a policy of strictly promoting young talents and could not go against it » noted the headcoach in a telephone interview. He equally laughed out claims that YOSA are inexperienced in Elite one football, being their first season and would find it difficult to cope. « YOSA is new in the Elite One not me », he claimed. « The most important thing is that the squad is benefitting from the skills of an experienced coach like me and i think we will surprise everybody this season », he said.
However, the team’s preparedness is still a doubt in the air as they are yet to play a friendly encounter since this pre season in order to assess the level of preparedness of the players. Pa Yong as the President is popularly called lamented this fact on the reluctance of clubs which they had contacted to play friendlies against them. They are however set to play a friendly against Aigle of the Menoua, according to team manager, Chah Terence. The club would equally hold its general assembly on the 07 October in Bamenda.
