Tiko United are back in contention for an African spot as the Elite one draws closer to its end. After losing their crown to Cotonsport of Garoua in the course of this season, the 2009 champions were left stocked on the fourth position before the 24th playing day but a precious one nil victory at the Tiko town green over Sable of Batie propelled the Samba boys to third.
But the Samba boys can however be grateful to relegation threatened Renaissance fc of Ngoumou who held Tiko’s rivals to the third spot, Panthere du Nde to a 1-1 draw at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaoundé. However the race is not yet over as the Samba boys need to travel across the hills to pick precious points from another serious contender, Unisport of Bafang who were one nil winners of the Ngaoundere University football club at the Ndoumbe Oumar stadium in Ngaoundere.
Even though the tickets to the African champions league had already been picked up by Champions, Cotonsport of Garoua and runner-up, Astres of Douala, the championship remains highly contested as the battle for survival continues. Consequently, the legendary Union Sportive of Douala in their revival and survival battle, traveled to Garoua to thrash and relegate Roumde Adjia to the Elite 2 by 3 goals to zero. The nassaras Kamakai have been in stunning form ever since the brought in new head coach Maurice Mpondo to replace the fired Nicolas Tonye Tonye.
Meanwhile in a battle of ego, the Yong Sports Academy, who are almost sure of finishing in the top half of the table traveled to Douala to impose a nil-nil draw on Astres of Douala who secured their second position last week.
As the trinity at the top struggles to take its shape, that at the bottom is already been carved out but not until AS Matelots of Douala take on their relegation threatened colleague, Fovu of Baham this Wednesday at the Douala reunification stadium, while waiting to see the outcome of the game between Cotonsport of Garoua and Canon of Yaoundé though it might have no repercussions.
