The Public Works Department Footbal Club, PWD Bamenda
lost one goal to zero to Bamboutous of Mbouda
yesterday Sunday June 20 at the Mbouda Municipal
Stadium. Playing without its key players like Uche and Nformi, the PWD boys engaged Bamboutous with defensive play
style which was to force Bamboutous to draw. All of
this in vain.
At first half, the PWD goalkeeper Musa Abdulai
suffered an injury and his replacement by a less
competent player gave an opening to their opponent
Bamboutous to score the lone winning goal at the 20th
minute into the second half. Worst still, the captain
of PWD sustained an injur and was taken out of the
field at half time.
Bamboutous play style wasn’t very impressive and they
made very few changes up front which of course gave
them the golden opportunity to score. When the central referee Mr. Ongba Zing Martin sounded his whistle for the end of the encounter it was Bamboutous Mbouda that emerged victorious.
PWD’s faith hangs on the balance because their last
but one match on Sunday against Victoria United, PWD
must obtain a win if they have to escape relegation
to Division two next season. Chance might play to their
favour if Renaisance of Ngoumou in Yaounde is
defeated in their next match with Esperance of
Guider.
According to official classification in Group
B, Esperance has 17 points, Renaisance 15, and PWD top
from bottom with barley 14 points. Since PWD will be playing at home either on Wednesady or Sunday football fans will again jam the Bamneda Municipal stadium expecting their team to thrash Victoria United as they did to Canon Yaounde last two weeks.
For security reasons forces of law and order had to
search football fans right to their pants before they
were allowed to enter the stadium at Mbouda. The
crowd was estimated at 10.000, the highest Mbouda had
ever witnessed in recent times.
