Dave Jones has admitted to being ‘dumbfounded’ by the decision of a tribunal to reject a work permit for goalkeeper Carlos Kameni. The boss and Richard Skirrow had travelled to Sheffield on Thursday to put their case to the sitting, but it proved to be a fruitless exercise.
« I was very disappointed with the outcome and a bit dumbfounded as to why the appeal was rejected, » said the manager.
« I have to be careful what I say, but I was very surprised and I’m angry that we’ve not got him.
« He can apply for a French passport but that could take months by which time European clubs and the bigger ones from our division will be in for him.
« Carlos had established himself well with the group and, for a 19-year-old in a strange country, he’d adapted very well.
« He has a lot of talent and would have pushed Matt and Oaksie for a place in the team. Now he has been taken away from us.
« It means that after spending a long time finding a player of his style and potential, I have to start looking for a new keeper all over again. »
