Fulham’s season ended two Saturday’s ago, and that was the beginning of a pretty manic week for myself and the rest of the Irish squad. On Sunday night the club had their end of season dinner and I barely had time to get my stuff together before flying to Sunderland on the Monday afternoon to meet up with the World Cup squad for Niall Quinn’s testimonial.
That took place on the Tuesday, and it was an honour to play in it. Quinny has been a great servant to Sunderland and Ireland.
It was good for us to play Nigeria two days later in the build-up to the Cameroon game on the 1st of June.
We know that it will be difficult because Cameroon are the African Nations Cup holders and they have a style of play that is hard to deal with.
But we were disappointed that we lost. We created a lot of chances and I felt we deserved at least a draw. Still, we’re in confident mood going into the Cameroon game, make no mistake about that.
