WOLVES are closing in a on a deal for Manchester City defender Lucien Mettomo. The Premiership new boys have agreed a fee with City for the Cameroon international and hope to tie up a deal before this weekend’s Premiership opener at Blackburn.
The 26-year-old has failed to hold down a regular place in City’s line-up and is keen on a move away for regular first team football.
Mettomo came to Wolves boss Dave Jones’ attention after impressing in the Confederations Cup for Cameroon earlier in the summer.
Jones is keen to bolster his defence as Wolves embark on their first season in The Premiership and sees Mettomo as a key addition to his squad.
Mettomo’s agent Willie McKay admitted a deal was a close to happening.
« That deal should happen soon, » said McKay. « All has been agreed and Mettomo should make his move to Wolves.
« Mettomo impressed at the Confederations Cup and there were a number of clubs chasing him.
« Wolves have been watching him for a few months and Mettomo was keen to stay in England if he moved on. »
Wolves could also make a move for Rennes midfielder Olivier Echouafni, who is currently on trial at Molineux.
The 30-year-old will spend a week with the Black Country club in the hope of winning a permanent move to England.
McKay, who also represent Echouafni, revealed the player is determined to impress enough to win a move to England.
« Echouafni is keen to play in England as he has been told all about The Premiership by friends such as Ali Benarbia, » said McKay.
« He has done well in training so far and he is hopeful of earning a contract at Wolves.
« He is a quality player and with a good CV having played at Marseille and Strasbourg before joining Rennes. »
