Striker Joseph Desire Job and defender Christian Tchuisse have been given a chance to play their way back into Cameroon’s World Cup squad.
Both players who missed out from the Lions second-consecutive African Nations Cup triumph in Mali have been in included in a 24-man squad, retained by coach Winfried Schaefer for next week’s friendly match against Austria in Vienna.
Another regular who was absent from the Nations Cup on account of a knee injury, Pierre Njanka Beaka also got a call up.
The coach insisted that 95 per cent of his World Cup squad is ready. « I have got the World Cup team etched out in my mind. But a few players need to be given a chance and that is what we are doing, » he said.
Cameroon had an impressive 2-2 draw with Argentina in Geneva last month and the coach said Austria would give them the kind of opposition they expect from Germany, one of the favourites of their group, he added: « Germany and Austria have good cultural and sporting ties, so the game will do the players a lot of good. »
Arsenal’s defender Lauren Etame Mayer and Sunderland’s striker Patrick Mboma, who missed last month’s game against Argentina are back in a squad which captain Rigobert Song said has the quality, talent, will and determination to shock the world in the Far East.
