Cameroon coach Winfried Schafer says he expects Saudi Arabia to improve against his side after their 8-0 drubbing by Germany.
Cameroon coach Winfried Schafer has warned his side not to go into Wednesday’s game against Saudi Arabia with a casual approach.
The Saudis were hammered 8-0 by Germany in their first group game, and have now become 5,000-1 outsiders for the tournament.
However, Schafer said that it did not mean his side was guaranteed a similarly easy ride.
« You must never underestimate them according to the match against Germany, » Schafer cautioned.
« Of course they will try to play a lot better against us. »
Fatigue to blame
Schafer, who is himself German, said that Cameroon would be taking the approach of his own countrymen into the game.
« We have to put pressure on them as the Germans did, attack very early, go inside the box, create many chances, and also play a lot more aggressively and focus on finishing. »
And he blamed fatigue for the Indomitable Lions’ failure to beat the Republic of Ireland in the Group E opener in Niigata.
Schafer’s side will do « anything possible » to win

His side were forced to settle for 1-1 draw after being outplayed in the second half of the match.
« First of all, it was difficult for us to perform better than we did against Ireland because of the delay we had before our arrival in Japan, » he said.
« But the problem was in order to be successful you have to be 100% fit.
« Teams like Argentina and England, they were here for five days more and they are probably a little bit fitter than we are.
« But our team has achieved a turning point and I’m very optimistic, and I’m very confident that our team will have a much better game against Saudi Arabia. »
