Winfried Schafer has said that he will meet with Cameroonian officials in France before his future with the national team is known. The Indomitable Lions lost 2-0 to Germany to crash out of the World Cup
I love working with Cameroon
The German’s contract with the Cameroonian football federation (Fecafoot) is due to end on 30 June.
Schafer has said he would want to continue his work with the Indomitable Lions.
« I love working with this team, » he told BBC Online in Shuzuoka.
« But it is not for me to decide. »
« I have a meeting with Mohamed Iya of Fecafoot and the minister of sport Bidoung Mkpatt in Paris to discuss the matter. »
Uncertainty
Fecafoot has made no hints on the Germans fate.
« We need time to examine the debacle, » said Iya Mohammed, Fecafoot’s president.
« Schafer has a contract which ends this month and we are happy with his work.
« As far as his contract with Cameroon is concerned, we have to wait for our meeting in Paris later this month, » Mohammed said.
Despite failing to take Cameroon beyond the group stage at the World Cup, Schafer led the Indomitable Lions to the African Nations Cup title last February.
