Cameroon’s striker warns Rudi Voeller’s men to expect a tough game at the World Cup.
Cameroonian striker Pius Ndiefi says Germany should expect a tough World Cup encounter when they meet in Shizuoka on 11 June.
« Germany have a good squad but we have a good team as well.
« The game is not going to be easy for either side, » Ndiefi told BBC Sport Online in Vienna.
Ndiefi, who plays for French first division club Sedan, said the Indomitable Lions are ready to take on the best that world football has to offer.
« After winning the African Nations Cup in Mali, we have to prove to the rest of the world that we are the best team in Africa. »
« People in Cameroon expect a lot from us and we do not plan to disappoint them. »
Ambition
After reaching the quarter-finals at the 1990 World Cup, Cameroon failed to go beyond the first round in 1994 and 1998.
But Ndiefi says that things will be different in Korea/Japan.
« We have played together for three years and know each other very well.
We had a good friendly game against Argentina, regarded as one of the teams to win the World Cup.
« Our result in that game proves that we are a quality side, » he said.
In Ndiefi’s view, Cameroon’s German manager Winfried Schafer has brought « organisation and discipline » to the side.
« He proved his worth at the African Nations Cup and he will prove it again at the World Cup. »
In contrast to his star status at his French club, Ndiefi knows that he will have to fight for a place in Cameroon’s squad.
« At Sedan, I am given a free role to do whatever I want.
« The coach has a lot of confidence in my ability and regards me as one of his best players.
« But with Cameroon, I have to compete with many talented players and the coach does things in a different way.
« Adjusting to the situation in the national team can be difficult but I am proud to wear the colours of my country. »
