Cameroon midfielder Andre Ndame Ndame has said that they were powered by their ‘Indomitable Lions’ nickname to beat defending champions DR Congo 2-0 in their opening match of the Sudan CHAN 2011 on Sunday in Omdurman.
The Coton Sport midfielder said Cameroon is synonymous with victories against favourites and they maintained the status quo against the Leopards, overwhelming favourites at the second edition of the tournament designed exclusively for footballers playing in their domestic leagues.
“In Cameroon, whenever we (national team) face a tough team or favourites, we usually come out tops. And today’s performance was inspired by that tradition.
“This DR Congo team is considered the best at this tournament and we were determined to break that jinx
On his part, head coach Emmanuel Ndoumbe also commended the fighting spirit of his players which made the difference against the highly rated Congolese.
The Indomitable Lions next play Mali on Thursday at the Merreikh Stadium in Omdurman.
