Cameroon striker Patrick Mboma will not have his loan spell with Sunderland turned into a permanent move, the club have confirmed.
Mboma joined the English Premiership club from Parma towards the end of last season, and was hoping to be given a full contract in the summer.
However, the club have informed him that they will not be trying to purchase him.
« We have let Patrick know that he will not be staying at Sunderland », a club official told BBC Sport Online.
« He will not be offered a contract with us. »
Mboma scored once for Sunderland during his loan spell, in a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
Parma signed him in 2000 after he scored 15 goals in 32 appearences for Cagliari, although he was unable to reproduce that sort of form after his multi-million pound move.
