Two goals from Cameroonian striker Patrick Mboma helped Tokyo Verdy to a 5-2 win over Kyoto Purple Sanga in the J-League – ending a run of six successive defeats for the club.
Mboma scored two in five minutes shortly before half time to send Verdy in 4-0 up at the break.
Takuya Yamada and Naoto Sakurai had already put the side 2-0 ahead before Mboma made sure of the victory.
Kyoto grabbed a couple after the break but Shingo Nejime rounded things off with Verdy’s fifth just before the final whistle.
The result meant that Kyoto, who also conceded five goals to Jubilo last weekend, traded places with Verdy at the foot of the table with both clubs on six points.
Title holders Jubilo Iwata remain top after a 3-1 win over Cerezo Osaka.
