Confident Cameroon midfielder Lauren believes the Indomitable Lions can go all the way to the World Cup final. « We are here expecting to play the full seven games, » he said.
The double-winning Arsenal star was in buoyant mood on arrival in Asia, despite the delays which left the squad stranded in Paris en route.
He told the waiting media: « For me, the World Cup will offer us the chance to confirm the good results of the qualifying round and the reputation we enjoy.
« In 1998, I could not show my qualities. I hope this time the public will see me in service to the team and nation, » he added.
Winfried Scafer’s men suffered just one defeat and a draw in ten qualifying games, and Lauren felt the Lions maintained that form against Denmark in Copenhagen last week, despite going down 1-0.
« I wasn’t involved against Denmark, but the team performed well as usual, » he said.
Lauren has excelled at right-back for Arsenal this season, but expects to return to midfield for his country – a position he regularly filled in Spain with Mallorca.
However the 24-year-old knows the experience of playing in England has improved him as a player.
He said: « I have had the luck of playing with great players like Henry, Vieira and Bergkamp. That has enabled me to progress my game.
« I gave my best to merit the confidence of Arsene Wenger and he knew how to make use of my talent. It was good for the team and, hopefully, it will be helpful in the World Cup. »
Lauren will come tackle Highbury team-mates David Seaman, Sol Campbell, Ashley Cole and Martin Keown when Cameroon face England in their final warm-up game in Kobe on Sunday.
