Cameroon’s ace midfielder, Lauren Etame Mayer who quit the national team after the debacle of the Indomitable Lions in the World Cup in Japan and Korea, might soon reintegrate the squad. According to Le Messager’s reporter in London, the reconciliation process between the Lions and the Arsenal player has started.
Lauren who announced his eventual departure from the squad last August, confirmed it three months later, having given the Cameroonian authorities enough time to present him a convincing project for the national team to curb amateurism and the errors of the minister of youth and sports.
After a long period of silence, the authorities in Yaounde seem to have come to their better senses and have dispatched Thomas Nkono to meet the player. A team to inspect sites in France for the national team in view of the upcoming Confederation Cup in June, will also meet with Lauren Etame in London for discussions.
If the Cameroonian delegation guarantees the seriousness and professionalism demanded by the star footballer, then they will finally arrive at a gentlemanly agreement which will spare Mayer of some friendly matches but which will seal his return to the squad. Etame’s absence was greatly felt in the last friendly match against Cote d’Ivoire, in which the Lions lost, 0 to 3. Lauren’s return could salvage the Lions from disgrace during the Confederation Cup where they’ve been pitted to meet with strong teams like Brazil, Turkey and the United States.
