Current MTN National Division I Championship highest goal scorer, Julius Agbor Takang, Tuesday, September 11, signed a one-year contract with Israeli Division I Club, Hapoel Kfar Saba, for an undisclosed fee.
Signing the contract in the presence of his London-based Manager, Humphreys Brian, Agbor was given jersey number 28, and will be in the starting line-up in Hapoel’s third league match of the season on September 17.
The 24-year-old striker left third place National Division I Club, Mt. Cameroon FC of Buea to Turkey where he played a series of test matches before leaping to Israel to clinch his first-ever professional contract.
Agbor, though absent from the Cameroon championship since the beginning of the second round, remains the highest goal scorer with nine goals.Before landing the professional deal, Agbor had played for Kumba Lakers, Kumbo Strikers, Union Douala and finally Mt. Cameroon FC.
Talking to The Post over the phone, Agbor said, « I am beginning to see my dream come true. I know the task ahead of professional football but I think with hard work I’ll overcome the odds. Gradually, I’ am adapting to the climate and lifestyle of the people here. »
Agbor’s parents are avid football fans and he has inherited their enthusiasm. Most of the brothers are footballers with the senior one, Oben Takang, who played for the Indomitable Lions at one time and is now a coach in France.
Hapoel Kfar Saba Football Club is presently sixth on the league table with four points after day two action.In recent years the team managed to survive in the Israeli Premier League and were relegated one season after promotion.
That was the case in the middle of the 2005-2006 season where the team had 10 points after 20 games and were in last place.However, Eli Ohana gave additional spirit to the players and the team survived in their last game. Hapoel play in green and white. The home ground is the Levita Stadium with a 7000-spectator capacity.
