Iya Mohamed, president of FECAFOOT has fired his chief of cabinet, Issa Sali on charges of fraud and corruption. The note of dismissal did not mention the offences, but simply said Sali had done things which don’t enable me to have confidence in you again.
Sali did not also say what he was accused of. » In fact, I don’t understand the matter. Ask those who are accusing me to tell you my crime « , he told The Herald.FECAFOOT sources said during Sali’s 18 months of service, he permanently destroyed Iya’s reputation of a good manager.
The sources cited numerous cases of Sali fraudulently collecting money from club or FECAFOOT officials. Sali was accused of using the federation to get entry visas into Japan for fans during the World Cup. A provincial league president disclosed to The Herald that Sali demanded and got 100.000FCFA from him, that it was a request from Iya for all the ten league presidents to contribute in the purchase of Sali’s flight ticket to the World Cup.
The last straw that broke the camel’s back was Sali’s failure to account for 30 footballs. FECAFOOT’s Japan partners recently donated 200 balls to Cameroon. Sali collected the goods from the airport but presented only 150 to the office. After pressure from the secretary general Sali produced 20 more.
Sali’s predecessor, Martin Ndongo was also fired for corruption almost two years ago .
