Chelsea defender Geremi Njitap has been given a three-match ban for his red card against Leicester last month. The English FA confirmed the Cameroon international’s suspension after a disciplinary hearing on Wednesday.
Geremi is the first of new Russian owner Roman Abramovich’s highly-priced squad to receive a ban.
It related to his sending off against Leicester on 23 August.
Referee Rob Styles, who had earlier booked Geremi, judged his two-footed tackle in the second half to be a violent challenge – and issued a straight red card.
Later in the game Styles also sent off Leicester’s Alan Rogers and Riccardo Scimeca.
Chelsea have decided not to appeal on behalf of former Real Madrid star Geremi, even though he will miss home matches against Tottenham and Aston Villa plus a visit to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
