Youngsters nation-wide will take part in the championship intended to consolidate and foster national unity. Provincial Delegates of Youth and Sports recently converged in their Ministry to prepare for the 37th national youth day come February 11
The meeting that was chaired by the Minister for Youth and Sports, Dr Bidoung Mkpatt was intended to lay the groundwork for this year’s national youth day. One of the fallouts of the forum was the organisation of a youth football tournament throughout the national territory. Dr Bidoung Mkpatt enjoined his collaborators to harmonise their activities with focus on the methodical organisation of a tournament. In token of appreciation, the Minister intimated that, President Paul Biya pays special attention to the youth who will tomorrow take the relay baton of command.
To achieve this objective, Dr Bidoung Mkpatt lauded the creation of a secretariat of state headed by a Secretary of State in charge of the youth in his ministerial department. The Minister regretted what he described as « laxity » within the delegates citing commercialisation of human genital organs by certain sects with the youth as principal victim. In order to nip the malicious practice in the bud, Dr Bidoung Mkpatt reminded the ten provincial delegates that they have the power to ban any association whose activities are dangerous to young Cameroonians. This year’s theme for the national event; « Youth and entrepreneurship, » was another focal point. The youth and sports officials put their thumbs on the creation of enterprises by young people as means to combat poverty and improve on their welfare. It was resolved that, ahead of February 11, the Secretary of State in charge of Youth in the Ministry of Youth and Sports will visit the ten provincial headquarters. The visit is to enable the Secretary of State to get acquainted with the socio-cultural realities in the various provinces. The officials decided that a town will be chosen in the days ahead to officially launch the 37th national youth day that will be commemorated on February 11, this year.
