REAL MALLORCA forward Samuel Eto’o has been hospitalised with a throat infection, leaving the club bereft of last season’s top strikers.
Having just sold Albert Luque to Deportivo La Coruna, Mallorca are looking somewhat lightweight upfront and the situation is certainly not helped with Eto’o being admitted to hospital suffering from a fever and vomiting.
The Cameroon striker has been put on a 24-hour fast in an attempt to flush the infection out with liquids.
It has been a difficult couple of months for Eto’o, who failed to earn himself a move to The Premiership in the summer. In August he suffered an ankle injury from which he is still recovering.
It is expected that Eto’o will be out for at least four games and given his 23 goals over the past two seasons, his loss is a major blow to coach Gregorio Manzano.
Eto’o joined Mallorca from Real Madrid in 2001 and is contracted to the Balearic side until 2007.
