Councillors of the Kumba urban council have debated and voted a budget of 750. million frs for the year 2004. A bit of that money (50 million frs) will be consumed by the first part of the construction of a modern stadium for the town.
Council chairman, Asapngu Ferdinard told The Herald that the new Kumba municipal stadium will have a 10,000 seat capacity, plus toilets and dressing rooms. When completed, a cement block fence will be thrown around the stadium, but there will be enough vehicle parking space most importantly, the pitch will be covered with grass.
Though ABAC Enterprises are doing the construction, Asapngu emphasised that the council will employ experts for adviced at each stage of the works.
Asapngu said money will not be spared to offer Kumba a modern football facility. Despite the huge sum of money the project will take, Asapngu said their main aim is not to make money from the stadium.
«Rather we want to encourage the pratice of football by opening the grounds to the youths,» he reiterated.
«A town with the importance and magnitude of Kumba deserves a modern sport facility».
Ateke Fidelis of ABAC enterprises doing the construction told The Herald that the project will require more land than the one currently allocated.
