Cameroon say they will not underrate the Saudi Arabia on Thursday despite the Asians’ 8-0 drubbing at the hands of Germany. Cameroon skipper Rigobert Song said that he expected the Saudis will come at them firing on all cylinders.
« We respect the Saudis, » Song said.
« And we will not rate them by their performance against Germany.
« They lost 8-0 but it doesn’t mean we would score as many goals. »
But Song added that the Indomitable Lions were now much more focused following the disappointment of their 1-1 draw with Ireland.
Schafer disappointed with draw
« We have studied what didn’t go right for us against Ireland so now we are taking this game more seriously.
« We have watched the way the Saudis played not only against Germany but in previous matches, so we know their strong and weak points in order that we excel. »
Schafer to keep faith with starters
The news that Sami Al Jaber could miss the game will be of interest to the Cameroon defender.
Tough match
Al Jaber was left out of the training session on Wednesday due to a knee injury.
And news filtering from the Saudi camp indicate that the Asians might bring in two new players who did not play against Germany.
Jaber said: « We want to do something for the Saudi people to be proud of us after our disgraceful start.
« We know a lot about Cameroon and their players. All of them are very strong so this will be a tough match for us. »
Saudi Arabia have never lost to an African team at the World Cup.
