Football lovers in both Cameroon and the rest of the world will pay a special homage to African’s footballer of the century, the legendary Roger Milla, as he turns 50 in May.
The event will be held in Douala and Yaounde and will be attended by many football stars both past and present.
They include Da Silvia Ferreira Eusebio, Hugo Sanchez, Jules Bocande, Shoubeir Ahmed, Rabah Madjer, Hang Ramsy, Shabani Nonda, George Weah, and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
Fifa president Sepp Blatter will also attend, albeit only briefly.
The festivities will include a grand parade in Douala, the donation of medical accessories to various health centres, and two gala matches at the omnisport stadiums of Douala and Yaounde.
There will also be a thanksgiving ceremony at Jopoma, the village of Milla’s birth.
Milla’s football career reached its peak in the 1990 World Cup in Italy, where his four goals helped take Cameroon to quarter finals, a position no African country had ever attained.
Milla today is Cameroon’s roving ambassador and UNICEF’s ambassador.
