Friends and fans of the late Cameroon star Marc-Vivien Foe will join his family on Saturday to commemorate the first anniversary of his tragic death. The former Indomitable Lions midfielder collapsed and died on 26 June, 2003 in Lyon, France during a Confederations Cup semi-final tie against Colombia.
Preparations for Saturday’s ceremonies, to be held in Yaoundé, are at an advanced stage.
Memorial services are to be carried out in most churches across the capital.
A special mass is scheduled to be held at Foe’s burial place in Biteng, on the outskirts of Yaoundé, where wreaths will be laid by family members.
Biteng is also the site of the sports complex Foe was building before his tragic death.
Although Foe was given a State funeral, and posthumously elevated to the rank of Commander of the National Order of Valour, most Cameroonians say the government must step in and finish his sports complex.
