New signing Mo Idrissou trained for the first time this morning and then attended his first press conference as a Borussia player, coming across as highly motivated in both instances.
In his debut training session at the BORUSSIA PARK the 30-year-old already looked settled in his new environment. And talking to local journalists afterwards the Cameroon international delivered the reason why, saying: « I already know a lot of the players, at least by sight. Dante, Juan Arango and Thorben Marx, for example. Karim Matmour is still on holiday but I played alongside him in Freiburg. Michael Frontzeck was my assistant coach in Hannover, Manni Stefes my fitness coach in Duisburg and I know physios Dirk Müller and Adam Szordykowski from a rehab programme in Düsseldorf. So I come here and it’s perfect from top to bottom, I’ve got everything I could possibly need. »
Idrissou will wear the number 25 shirt at Borussia, one he wore with some success in Hannover (« I scored a few goals in that »). He passed his medical yesterday but will not play in tonight’s friendly in Echt. « I’m supposed to do a blood lactate test first, which I understand, of course. But if it were up to me, I’d play tonight. »
Given the choice, the Cameroonian prefers to lead the line. « But as I said, I’m a team player. The coach chooses the line-up and the tactics. » Asked to describe his qualities as a striker, Idrissou says he is good in the air, holds the ball up well and is willing to work for his team-mates: « I just want to help the team and score goals. Borussia have a lot of super people, we’re a good group with some good names. The task now is to use pre-season to shape a team of players with character who are ready to give their all at all times. And I always want the maximum. »
