Neng Claude Christian, recruited into the reserve team of Tonnerre Kalara club of Yaounde barely three weeks ago died during a practice session after Christmas. Nkeng whom colleagues say showed signs of breathlessness during the practice session slumped and fell on the battlefield after emerging first in the sprint that preceded the test match.
He had played three friendlies with the team and considering his great performances TKC officials were considering promoting him to the first team. His death brings to three the number of Cameroonian sportsmen who this year have died on the playground.
Nkeng’s corpse is currently lying at the CNPS hospital in Yaounde. He will be buried in his native Eseka on 10 January 2004. Born on 29 April 1977, Nkeng before his recruitment into Tonnerre was without a club. His colleagues said he died like Foe Marc-Vivien.
