Wolverhampton Wanderers, Thursday July 31 2003 – Wolves have confirmed that they will not be pursuing their interest in Cameroon international goalkeeper Carlos Kameni any further.
The Premiership newcomers decided to end their interest after expressing doubts about the teenage keeper’s commitment.
Molineux boss Dave Jones had earmarked the highly-rated keeper as an understudy to Matt Murray. After a deal had been agreed with his French club Le Havre, the Cameroonian had been expected to sign for a year with a view to completing permanent switch next season.
But Wolves have now pulled the plug on the deal and a medical scheduled for last night was called off.
Chief executive Jez Moxey told the club’s official website: « After further discussions with the player and his representatives, we have decided to withdraw.
« We won’t be pursuing the move any further as we have doubts over Kameni’s commitment, and we don’t intend to sign anyone for Wolves who is less than 100 per cent committed to coming here. »
Meanwhile, Wolves remain hopeful of completing the £1.7m signing of Jody Craddock from Sunderland after holding talks with the defender’s agent on Wednesday.
Jones also hopes to seal the signing of Henri Camara and Steffen Iversen from Sedan and Spurs respectively before the season kicks off.
