CHELSEA have jumped to the head of the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder Geremi. Real sporting director Jorge Valdano has confirmed the mega-rich Blues have tabled a €9 million bid for the Cameroon ace, the highest offer from an English side.
Geremi spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, who are still keen, while Manchester United are still said to be looking at the right-sided ace.
The African could now be given the chance to complete a move to London, but the ultimate decision on whether he will be allowed to leave El Santiago Bernabeu will lie with new coach Carlos Queiroz.
The Real board have said they are ready to let the 24-year-old leave, but if Queiroz says he will play a part next term, then he will be allowed to stay.
A delegation from Stamford Bridge is due in the Spanish capital on Thursday to thrash out a deal, provided Queiroz gives the move the green light.
