This article tackles the endemic problem of list fixing at the Ministry of Youths and Sports which more or less stands as an obstacle to both the function of the coaches as well as to performance.
With just a little more than two weeks to go for the kick-off of the Confederation Cup in France, the gymnastics over the list of players to take part in this competition is on. As the counts down narrows, body twisting and lobbying take the central stage of the Lions selection. It has become common place within soccer circles in Cameroon, to witness the unfortunate situation where, a ready-made list from the Ministry of Youths and Sports smuggles its way into the limelight.
Rumours are rife that Head Coach Winfred Schafer as early as the beginning of last week sent a list of 23 players to the Ministry of Youths and Sports, sources from the Ministry claim. but uptill this material moment, we are still to get any confirmation from official sources nor has the list been published. The million dollar question the looms the lips of many a soccer fan is why should the list of selected players be sent to the Ministry of Youths and Sports at all before it is published? The choice of players should be the only prerogative of the Head Coach and none else. It is his duty to select players capable of delivering the goods, and in the case of failure, we have him to be blamed. But when the tutelage Ministry decides to turn things upside down, then we would hold the Head of the Ministry responsible.
I think its high time we left Schafer do his job, select those he things are in topform to fly high the colours of Cameroon in France and Let Bidoung Mpkatt rather than assuming an over bearing influence on the selection, concentrates on the administrative functions he has waiting for him in his Yaounde office.
