Song wants Lauren and Kalla to return to international football Indomitable Lions skipper Rigobert Song regrets the absence of Raymond Kalla and Lauren from the squad which lost 3-0 to Ivory Coast last week.
Both Kalla and Lauren resigned from the team last year for different reasons.
In an interview with Cameroon daily Mutations Song made his position clear: « I don’t manage the team, I’m just a player like any other.
« But personally, I think that if a player is of service to the team, then he should be called up.
Song acknowledged the problems created by the departure of Lauren.
« Who is the club president or coach who would not like to have a player of Lauren’s quality?
« We can’t hide the fact that he is a very experienced player, » Song said.
« It’s now left for the technical staff to take measures to fill the vacuum created by this departure. »
Song put part of the blame of the defeat on the new tactics of coach Winfried Schaefer, though Schaefer was to be congratulated ‘for trying something new’.
« Usually we play with three defenders, » Song explained.
« But in Chateauroux (the venue for the Ivory Coast game), we played with four at the back, not forgetting the absence of Kalla ».
Lauren has quit international football to concentrate on his Arsenal career
Apart from the Schaefer’s new tactics, Song cited two other reasons that caused their heavy defeat to Ivory Coast.
Unlike Ivory Coast it was Cameroon’s first game in eight months, and most players are now regulars in their clubs.
Consequently, some players arrived in camp on the morning of the match day.
Song appealed to the administrators to get more friendlies, which will enable his team to prepare for future competitions like the Confederations Cup.
Cameroon are Africa’s representatives in the international tournament, which will be held in France this summer.
