Cameroon’s Patrick Mboma says he is looking forward to returning to Japan for the World Cup. The striker played two seasons at Gamba Osaka, and was the leagues top scorer in 1998 with 25 goals in 28 games.
He says that he is telling Cameroon everything he knows about the country, which could work in the Indomitable Lion’s favour.
« It will be hot, so probably that could be something that could help us, » he said.
Mboma says that being a recognisable face in Japan will be another plus.
« People will come to watch us because there will be somebody they know.
« The Japanese people like me, so that could be a help.
« I think we can count on Japanese support unless, of course, we have to face Japan. »
Mboma says football fans in Japan are different to those he has encountered playing elsewhere.
« They are noisy, but respectable and never hassle the opponents.
« They are in the stadium simply to support their team, and that is something very special compared to what I know from Africa and Europe. »
