Cameroon coach Winfried Schafer will be going for victory through consistency in Wednesday night’s World Cup warm-up game against Austria in Vienna.
He is building his country’s hopes on the squad that took the African Nations Cup in Mali, although his side may be a little changed from the one that drew so impressively with Argentina last month in Geneva.
Schafer is without Samuel Eto’o Fils and Raymond Kalla, but does, however, have Mali 2002 top scorer Patrick Mboma back from injury, as well as Arsenal’s Lauren.
There are three players who did not go to the Nations Cup, but Jerry-Christian Tchuisse, Pierre Njanka and Joseph-Desire Job are recalls rather than debutants.
History
Four years ago it was against Austria that Cameroon began their France ’98 World Cup campaign.
The match was a dull affair, only enlivened by a spectacular Njanka goal which looked to have secured the Indomitable Lions a victory until a last-minute equaliser from the Austrians.
