Samuel Eto’o Fils and Raymond Kalla are both definitely out for the Indomitable Lions’ friendly with Austria.
Cameroon will be without two first team regulars for their World Cup warm-up match against Austria on Wednesday.
Samuel Eto’o Fils and Raymond Kalla have both been ruled out, although for vastly different reasons.
Kalla has failed to recover from an injury he picked up playing for Estramadura.
But Eto’o misses out because he is attending the African Player of the Year ceremony in Johannesburg.
However, striker Patrick Mboma and Lauren Etame, who were out in last month’s game against Argentina because of injury, are back.
Kalla’s absence will offer head coach Winfried Schafer a chance to try other players in the centre of the defence which appears the Achilles’ heel of the Indomitable Lions.
The squad includes the recalled Pierre Njanka, Joseph Desire Job and Christain Tchuisse, who were all selected, according to Schafer, because they were « improving in their clubs. »
The match in Vienna is the second the Indomitable Lions have played Austria.
The first was at France’98 which ended in a 1-1 draw, with Austria equalising in stoppage time.
Cameroon’s fans are confident Austria will lose this time.
Cameroon have two more warm up games against Denmark and England before the World Cup begins in Japan and Korea.
