Bamjee says that Issa Hayatou can unite Fifa. The president of the Confederation of Southern Africa Football Federation (Cosafa), Ismael Bamjee, has declared his support for Issa Hayatou in the forthcoming Fifa elections.
He told journalists in Blantyre this week that while he has a very strong relationship with Fifa president Sepp Blatter, his choice was for Hayatou because of his origin.
« Hayatou is an African and so I am, » he said.
Infighting
Bamjee said his loyalty to Hayatou is personal, and further revealed that Cosafa is yet to meet and make a decision on its official endorsement.
That meeting will take place next week.
Bamjee added that he feels Hayatou is the right man for the Fifa presidency job because he could end the infighting in the Fifa executive.
His comments come in spite of his accompanying Blatter on his southern Africa tour.
However, he defended his travelling with Blatter, stating that he was acting only as an executive member of the world governing body.
